Germany
Boarding my plane to Berlin in January of 2019, COVID-19 was a concern in the back of my mind. Having spent my winter break in Vietnam, we were already being cautioned to wear masks, especially while traveling. In my mind, it felt like a concern I would leave behind in Asia. In fact, arriving in Berlin, it felt like a whole new lease on life. Instantly, I fell in love with the city, even in it’s dark, gloomy winter state. Berlin’s public transportation, diverse communities, and electric nightlife left me in awe. For far too many reasons to count, as of writing this, it is by far the place I hope to call home in the future. Even with my study abroad program eventually being terminated, I elected to stay in Berlin, taking on a myriad of life’s questions with absolutely none of the answers. Sadly, I didn’t get the picture perfect time in Germany I had planned for. Still, I was blessed to make lifelong friends and experience an unprecedented time in history within the borders of country that handled things arguably more competently than the United States.
